they are, john. i spent the last couple of days in sort of southeastern virginia, norfolk virginia beach area on exactly that question. what happened to the obama magic. we picked virginia because he won that state. the first time a democrat did that since 1964. and this particular part of virginia, they elected a freshman democrat. and since that time, he's been running away from the president. a sure sign that the president's popularity, some of ththat magi has flipped in places like virginia. the democrat appeared with then candidate obama four times in 2008. now he hasn't appeared with him at all. he voted against health care reform. why? well, we talked to some independent voters in that district who voted for president obama in 2008. and they just say, look, they have no personal against the president. they think he tried to do too much too fast. and number two, they said the economy's so awful right now, people are just in complete panic mode right now and that what they want to do is take it out on their representative. whether it's a democrat, whether it's a republican. and ther

the virginia visitor's center and nutley street to the beltway. delays on braddock eastbound toward the beltway, also on 50 delays from fairfax circle to the beltway. a crash on 15 and that's tieing up the right side of the road. no problems in montgomery county. slow from the 410 out of riverdale into the northeast. that's a check of your fox 5 on- time traffic. >>> our top story this morning, a deadly crash in district heights overnight involving an suv and ambulance. two people were killed. two medics are being treated. stacy cohan has the details. >> reporter: this happened around midnight, this collision between an ambulance and the suv. they do have the suburban involved in the crash up on a flatbed tow truck and they remove it and reopen this roadway. to learn more about what happened, all of the fire investigators had to do was take a look at the dashboard camera in the ambulance and they were able to watch the accident happen. >> in the distance on the dash cam you can see a set of headlights approaching that appears to be in the same lane of travel but coming in the opposite direction

there and in ohio and virginia say he may be connected to 19 attacks or i should say 18 attacks all together including five in which the victims died. there is no word tonight on what the new charges will include, but the suspect's defense lawyer says he expects at least one murder charge. investigators caught the man last month while he was reportedly trying to get on a plane to israel. capitol hill police opened fire on a man who they say pointed a gun at them early this morning. happened just blocks from the u.s. capitol building they tell us, 5:00 this morning. >> capitol police officers heard a lookout that was broadcast over the u.s. capitol police radio for a man with a gun. at second and fee street in the southwest a man brandishing the victim matched the exact lookout. the officers fired, fearing for their lives. >> shepard: police say the man was pointing a loaded gun at them when they opened fire. they dropped the suspect but no word on how seriously he is injured or why he pulled the gun in the first place. police say just as a precaution they locked down the u.s. capitol complex

there. and then there's the very red state of west virginia. democrats of course have a very, very popular governor running in joe manshun. will they put the money in that they need to win those races. one other thing republicans have to worry about, let's take a look at our map here where the democrats are targeting a few of these republican seats. there are five here that are sitting here. and of course three of them are still seats that democrats are trying to win. you've got missouri. they're spending real money there. they really think robin carnahan can beat, we'll see, not quite sure but it is a red state but it is a red state that robin carnahan very popular, raised a ton of money. kentucky, the first tea party victory was rand paul. democrats still believe that he is too weak to win that seat. we shall see. he's been leading in all the polls. jack conway has yet to be able to take a lead there. the third seat that's sort of sitting there ends up being florida. we're going to close there. take a look at this, what charlie crist said yesterday. he's now the independent, that

, and then moved to west virginia. this was the radar from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. this blazes up and cruises across new york harbor and queens and brooklyn. that is the cell that may have produced a tornado. the more i-reports we look at it looks like it was probably a tornado. the national weather service is out there surveying the damage to determine that for a fact. from all we have seen, it was nasty storm. that front has gone through. these two fronts were protecting us from igor. are they fast enough and strong enough to move igor away from bermuda? that's the question. this one, bay the way, is fairly chilly, bringing in fall-like air. we are in a busy hurricane season. this is hurricane karl, category 3 storm. it is making landfall right across a cro cross mexico. the winds from this are smaller than igor but will slam into the mountains there and head to mexico city and by the time it gets to that el vague, typically they don't have punch. there will be mud slides. igor, winds of 120 miles an hour. this has not moved much at all. we are still looking for it to be very close if not directly

this area was founded in 1609 by sailors trying to get to virginia, and they settled here. i can tell you from 1609 to present day they know how to handle these tropical systems. they were well prepared, they were willing to accept the damage from the tree, the roof damage and the shattered windows, blocked roadways. it goes with the territory, so to speak. some of the flooding that we had along the coastline is caused by some of the nine to 12-foot waves that pushed by the wind you're going to have that. that's water is now since receded which is good news. there are other issues in terms of the main causeway in bermuda. that's shut. the airport is closed. when the winds subside, what they will do is take a team of engineers out by the causeway and check fort structural damage. if it appears sound, they will open it back up. and hopefully thereafter the airport. >> reynolds wolf doing yeoman's service in bermuda. >>> sarah shourd who spent more than a year in prison is back on u.s. soul but her heart is in iran. >> her fiance and friend are being held accused by the iranian government of
